Author Babette James Takes on Our Weird Interview Questions

BabetteJames2033 200x300To ring in the new year at Heart Melting Romance, I’ve invited Author Babette James to answer some of the weird questions and tell us about her newest book. Please welcome Babette.

1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I write contemporary and fantasy romance, and I’ve always loved writing and making up stories, beginning back when I used to act out epic fantasy tales with my dolls. (My Barbies had swords and knew how to use them.) I even have a degree in Literature, but it wasn’t until 2004 that I wrote my first full rough draft of romance novel and began gathering up my nerve to pursue publication. I went kayaking on the Colorado River last year for the first time and I’d love to do it again. My husband and I are owned by two very spoiled cats. Pookie, my younger cat, considers it his daily duty to wake me promptly at 5:00 a.m. for food and cuddles. He’s definitely helping me find time to make my word count goals.

2. Please tell us about your most recent release.
Summertime Dream is my new spicy contemporary romance novel from The Wild Rose Press, which is available now on SummerTimeDream 200x300Amazon. This is the second novel in my River series, which began with Clear As Day. I had never intended to give Margie and Christopher their own story or write a prequel. Best laid plans… I made the mistake of asking my characters how they met. They proved to have far more to share than a simple scene of how they met the summer before the events in Clear As Day. My sweet happy couple had shadows in their pasts and problems to resolve before they reached their happily ever after. I absolutely loved writing their novel and watching the two learn what they needed in their lives as they dealt with the house, Margie’s family, the mystery of Christopher’s grandmother, and fell headlong into love.

3. How much do you use ketchup? (1 – not at all, 5 – on all foods)
1-Not at all. Can’t stand ketchup, but oddly, I love eating tomatoes.

4. What is the most distant place you’ve visited (from your home)?

5. What were you doing at midnight last night?

6. Last furry thing you touched?
My cat Pookie.

7. What is your current desktop picture?
Lake Mohave at dawn.

8. If you had to choose between a million bucks and being able to fly, which would you choose?
I would have to choose a million bucks. Flying would be fun, but I could use the money and I’m afraid of heights.

9. The last song you listened to?
Aerial Boundaries by Michael Hedges

10. What is your favorite cheese?

11. What’s the longest you’ve gone without taking a bath?
I think three or four days without an actual shower or bath. (But I was camping and always washed my face and caught at least a birdybath.)

12. What is your best physical attribute?
I like my hair.

Thanks for the fun questions and letting me share the day here with you. Wishing you all a very happy and successful 2014!

The Fourth of July is over, but for these summer lovers the fireworks have just begun.

An unexpected inheritance brings business consultant Christopher Gordon from Los Angeles to quaint Falk’s Bend. He’s carved a week from his demanding schedule to list his great-grandparents’ house for sale and explore his roots. However, disturbing family secrets and the sweet temptation of writer Margie Olsson derail his plans, challenging him to seize the elusive dream missing from his hectic life— love.

A recent brush with death shook Margie’s life, but not her dreams and she’s ready to move forward. Only, standing up to her loving, over-protective family isn’t easy. Helping Christopher explore the derelict mansion and unravel his grandmother’s mysterious past should be a harmless fun taste of independence. But when her experimental summer fling ignites into unexpected love, how can her small town dreams work with his big city life?

  1. Really great post Babette! I too enjoyed the comments above about Ketchup. You never know what will engage the readers, do you, LOL.
Good luck with your book, it sounds like a great read and it’s already placed in my TBR list.

  2. Had to laugh about the ketchup and Mary Morgan’s comment about it being considered a food group. I was outraged when my kids were in grade school to discover the educational system DID consider ketchup a vegetable.

  3. Great interview! And I share the same distaste over ketchup. My sister used to think it was part of the vegetable group. 😉 All the best!
